<aside> 💡 Once you are approved for a Phoenix account, you will receive an email with login details and a link to your project on the Phoenix platform. Your Phoenix project gives you the tools to gather data from social media platforms, create classifications to organise that data, and visualise the data you have gathered and classified in an interactive dashboard.

These tools alone do not make a social media listening and analysis process. This process answers questions like…

You will not be able to start using the Phoenix platform without answering these questions. You may have your own social media analysis process already – your own ways of  answering the questions above. In this manual, we have laid out our recommended social media analysis process for mediators and peacebuilders. In summary, these are:

  1. Define a problem statement that outlines the questions you want to answer by listening to and analysing social media. What do you hope to learn? What insights are you hoping to gain? Jump to: define a problem statement.
  2. Decide where you will get data from. Part of this is deciding which social media platforms you want to listen to. Within each platform, you will also need to brainstorm who and what you want to listen to, that is what are your search parameters. Do you want to only listen to a predefined list of accounts? Or do you want to listen to any mention of a list of keywords? Jump to: decide where you will get data from.
  3. Gather data from social media platforms. You will do this on the Phoenix platform. There are some restrictions to what is possible on each platform, which we outline in this manual. Jump to: gather data from social media.
  4. Classify the data you have gathered. You will do this on the Phoenix platform. There are different ways to classify both the social media accounts you gather data from and the text of the posts or comments you gather. Jump to: classify the data you have gathered.
  5. Visualize the data you have gathered and classified. The Phoenix platform will make all the data you gather available in an editable dashboard, with your classifications applied to it. On this interface, you will be able to make graphs and tables. Jump to: visualize the data you have gathered.
